Saidi Ray – The Tanzanian Knife Painter

Saidi Ray was born and grew up in the port of Dar es Salaam on the Swahili coast of Tanzania. He started his journey as an artist after completing his high school education. He then went on to pursue further studies in art at Nyumba ya Sanaa [meaning “House of Arts”] in Zanzibar where he graduated with honors. He is now a professional artist who loves to paint with a knife as it gives his paintings an interesting energy.
